Price of beans should only normalise by early 2017

Regulating the supply of beans and the possibility of return of product prices to a level considered reasonable, in order to meet the market, must only occur at the beginning of 2017, from the harvest of the first crop. According to Eduardo Lüders, President of the Ibrafe (Brazilian Institute of beans and Pulses), although provision is made for greater supply of grain between the end of July and during the month of August, when they will be harvested the irrigated areas (the so-called third crop), the volume will not be enough to bring prices to a point satisfactory for the consumer.
"With the entry of the crop is irrigated, from this month and in July and August, a fall in prices, which must be normalized to the entrance of the 2016/17, which begins to be planted in September and harvested at the beginning of next year," predicts Neri Geller, Secretary of the agricultural policy Map (Ministry of Agriculture, livestock and food supply).
The lack of beans in the market, caused by the fall in production, increased product prices to levels never before seen in Brazil. In several municipalities of different States, producers already receive over 500 reais for the sack of 60 pounds. "In Sao Paulo, the prices paid to producers showed a slight drop from February to March this year, however, this drop was not passed on to the consumer," reports lead researcher Alkyd Elenor Wander, Deputy Chief of research and development at Embrapa rice and beans (GO).
Wander that there are great variations in States prices between regions: the biggest in places that produce commercial carioca bean, especially where crop failure as a result of the climatic effects of the El Niño phenomenon. "An interesting fact is that the producer price increases are passed on to the wholesale and retail (consumer), almost instantly. Already the price to the producer takes between two and three months to reach the consumer, "says the researcher.
