Kaffa, from Portugal, will have factory of coffee capsules in SP

The Portuguese Kaffa invested r $ 3 million to open a factory of coffee capsules in Ribeirão Preto (SP). The expectation is that the unit begin operating in mid-July and has the capacity to produce about 60 million capsules per year, to meet coffee producers who want to act in the segment.
The plant is in front of the headquarters of the Coffee, the first partner Utam Kaffa, which imported approximately 4 million tablets last year. "We've got some other contracts closed," says the President of Kaffa, Oscar Galvão. The capsules made by Kaffa to different brands are compatible with Nespresso machines, Nestle, and between 30% and 40% cheaper than those sold by giant Switzerland. The company operates in Portugal since 2004 and invoice € 20 million. The Kaffa also markets a machine of its own, made in Portugal, which plans to bring Galvão to Brazil as soon as possible.
The capsules of the Kaffa arrived at the Brazilian market in March last year, with the Coffee Utam. The Portuguese company has devoted more than a year to develop an exclusive line for the Brazilian company, which has just been released. According to the Director of Coffee Utam, Ana Carolina Soares de Carvalho, the new version is "more modern and more efficient", because it facilitates the extraction of coffee and allows less oxygen exchange with the environment, favouring the quality of drink. Utam line Uno is composed of six ' blends ', with raw material from different origins. A box with 10 capsules costs $ 13.50.
Ana Carolina considers that, although still very small, the pods in the Brazil market, estimated at a maximum of 3% of the industrialized coffee sector, reaches 15% in a short time. The segment now represents about 5% of revenue and their participation in the Utam revenue should grow this year. In 2013, the company had gross operating revenue around r $ 53 million and net income of approximately $ 3 million.
The Utam is one of the few Brazilian companies to market coffee capsules. The items are sold at about 300 points of sale of São Paulo and Minas Gerais and arrived last month to Rio Grande do Sul.
The Brazil will receive the first manufacturing unit of Kaffa out of Portugal. The Portuguese factory of company has the capacity to produce 350 million capsules per year and half is exported.
