Growing concern with feeding the Pets

According to recent study by Nielsen on pet food, which featured long-term tendencies of this market, among the more than 48,000,000 of Brazilian homes, 46% are the presence of dogs and 18% of cats, and are considered the children, since almost 70% of homes with pets do not have children. The research revealed that healthy eating habits are already migrating to the pet food market, composed of dry or wet items and snacks. Currently, 37% of the country''s households already buy some kind of pet food for dogs and 15% for cats. However, the owners who don''t buy pet food represent 9% and 3% for cat.
Most Pets lies in southern region
According to the study, most pets are located in the southern region of the country, where there are big families (5 or more components) and with higher purchasing power to invest in a natural and healthy food. "These homes, even with the economic instability in the country, still many times with the same consumption habits," says Lucas Araneo, the Nielsen Executive. The research points out that the volume of purchases and disbursements at the Pet Shop is bigger on the occasion that at the supermarket (that''s double to triple for cats and dogs), for example. However, consumers tend to go more times to the Supermarkets to shop for their pets, but taking smaller amounts.
Cash & Carry shopping for Pets Relevance Wins even with not so tight pocket, pet owners seek a better cost benefit, opting for different channels of purchase. And it is in this scenario that the Cash & Carry WINS relevance, since it grows 12% and reaches 12,400,000 of people buying pet food category in this store format. The data of the study show that 14% of consumers are unique to this channel, in other words, don''t buy into another, and 6% of supermarket consumers have effects on Cash purchases & Carry. Another fact is that nearly 50% of purchases of tidbits/sachets is made as spare-out buying supplies-which shows that the pets receive some pampering of their owners on a daily basis.
