Chinese coronavirus vaccine arrives in Brazil

In the early hours of Monday, Brazil received vaccines for testing against the new coronavirus produced by the Chinese laboratory Sinovac Biotech.
The material, which last departed from Frankfurt, Germany, arrived in brazil after 11 hours of travel, around 4:20 am on Monday, at Cumbica Airport, in Guarulhos, in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo.
The test material will go to the Butantan Institute in São Paulo, which will conduct the study.
The National Research Ethics Commission (Conep) has already authorized the start of this phase of clinical trials with the vaccine, which should take place for three months.
At this stage, the third of the study, Conep seeks to prove the safety and efficacy of the vaccine against COVID-19. 9,000 volunteers recruited to participate in the experiment will be tested. The registration of interested parties was made by application, released last Monday. Testing begins on Tuesday.
Butantan director Dimas Covas, ahead of the study with "Coronavac", said that the vaccine is considered one of the most promising in the world and that he is optimistic to make the immunizer available in Brazil at the end of this year or early 2021. According to him, in preliminary studies, more than 90% of participants developed desired antibodies.
The tests will be performed on volunteers from São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais, Paraná and the Federal District. Participants may not have been infected with the virus or participate in other studies. Women cannot be pregnant or plan pregnancy for three months.
The research will begin at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (USP) and, after authorization, will also be carried out at the University of Brasília (UnB); at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases Evandro Chagas, in Rio de Janeiro; at the Drug Research and Development Center of the Federal University of Minas Gerais; at the São Lucas Hospital of PUC do Rio Grande do Sul and at the Hospital das Clínicas of the Federal University of Paraná.
Similar testing is being done with the vaccine developed by the University of Oxford (England), in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
