Sales of smartphones are falling 13.4% after five years of high

São Paulo-smartphone sales retreated in 2015, after five years of consecutive highs.
The trade in equipment fell 13.4% 2014, to little more than 47 million units, according to study released by IDC Brazil. Despite the retraction, the average ticket of cell phones had 17 percent rise and raised revenue in 1.2%
"It was a very difficult year for the economy and the market for smartphones, which showed positive growth rates in previous years, just impacted, mainly due to the high of the dollar," said Leonardo Munin, research analyst of IDC Brazil.
"Even with some domestic manufacturers betting on the market of cell phones, the inputs are imported and, throughout the year, it was necessary to do three to four prices for transfers of equipment," he added.
Despite the lower sales volume, revenues had a growth of 1.2%, in comparison to 2014, the 17% high sustained on average ticket, which went from R$ in 2014 to 750 R$ 880 in 2015.
"The years 2013 and 2014 were marked by the popularity of smartphones. In 2015, there was a change in the behaviour of consumers, who began to invest in more expensive phones, "said the analyst.
"The increase in revenue was influenced by this new behavior of users who seek a second experiment with the smartphone, opting for a more robust device," he said.
Munin stressed that the life cycle of mobile phones, which was a year and a half, went on for about two years. "We note that the consumer is getting more time with a device and preferring even do minor repairs. It stops reflecting in the sale of new appliances, "he pointed out.
IDC predicts new pullback, about 13% of the Smartphone market, with the sale of approximately 41 million sets in 2016.
