Industry sales of supermarkets in Rio de Janeiro fell 3% in January, says Asserj

Sales of the supermarket sector in the State of Rio de Janeiro fell 3% in January, compared with the same month of the previous year. The data were disclosed on Thursday (10) by the Association of Supermarkets in the State of Rio de Janeiro (Asserj).
According to the President of the entity, Fabio Queiróz, earlier this year a "reflow", after the end-of-year expenses. However, the result also reflects "concern about the effects of economic instability".
"We are intensifying negotiations with the suppliers, to high-dollar. This is one of our efforts to try to ensure a cheaper price for the consumer. Our proposal against the effects of the economic crisis is to increase the supply of registered products on the markets and betting promotions, giving the consumer more choice and more advantageous prices. With this we can keep sales heated up and the flow of industrial production, "said Queiroz, in a note.
1.5% drop in sales of trade
The negative result in January in the State of Rio de Janeiro is similar to that observed in the data of the total sales volume of the Brazilian trade. According to the Brazilian Institute of geography and statistics (IBGE), retailers retreated 1.5 percent on the month-the fall more intense for the period since 2005.
From December to January, most retail segments recorded negative results. Sales of hypermarkets and supermarkets, which has the greatest weight on the retail index, fell 0.9%. Trade in furniture and appliances also showed weaker data. In comparison with the end of last year, the sector had low 4.3%.
2015 sold $ 30 billion
Despite the economic crisis that the country, the billing of the supermarkets people remained stable in 2015, compared to the previous year, and totaled r $ 30 billion, according to Asserj.
"The result shows that, despite the worsening economic crisis from the second half of the year, the segment remained stable in comparison with 2014, which registered $ 27 billion in sales. The high values of inflation recorded at the end of last year, "analyzed the entity.
200 1000 jobs
The Association reported that the supermarket sector generates 200 1000 jobs in the State of Rio de Janeiro and that there is "no record of a large-scale layoffs among its 300 member companies, totaling over 1500 stores distributed throughout the region of Rio de Janeiro".
