Drop in fresh produce values relieves inflationary pressure

The decrease of rainfall in major producing areas of tomato and potato impacted on falling prices of these vegetables marketed in major Supply Centers (Ceasas) in the country. The biggest offer of products and with best quality made prices fall by up to 53% in the case of tomatoes in Espírito Santo and 39% of the potato in Recife. That''s what reveals the 3rd Prohort Newsletter Horticulture Marketing in Ceasas in 2016, released yesterday by the national supply company (Conab). The study analyzes marketing wholesale prices in February this year and is available on page highlights area of Conab (www.conab.gov.br)
But, at the same time that the improvement of the climatic conditions had a positive reflection of the consumer in some places, excessive rains during the planting and harvesting of carrots, in Minas Gerais, Bahia and Goiás, meant that there was decrease of supply and consequent increase of the values of marketing.
