Chilly off-season harms resumption of textile retail

The prolonged cold in the South and Southeast of the country helped to delay the recovery of the retail textile results in this last quarter, which is the busiest period for the sector. The expectation of the companies was that in October, sales were already at a higher level, according to Marcelo Prado, Director of the Iemi (Institute of studies and Industrial Marketing).

"If the season of spring-summer do not consolidate until the end of November, the annual performance will be affected", he says. The projection of the major networks for the last quarter is equal to revenues from 2015, says the President of Abvtex, an organization in the industry, Edmund Lima. "The highest consumer confidence not converted in sales in October, and cold waves out of time have helped."

Traditionally, the end-of-year sales grow 120% compared to the average of other months. In 2015, the high was 70%, and in 2016, the projected that the result is between 5% and 6% higher than last year. Between January and August, were marketed 8.6% fewer parts than in same period in 2015. Even with a good performance in the last quarter, the sector provides close 2016 with 4.6% drop in sales and revenue growth below the inflation of 2.7%.
