President of BMW in Brazil projected backdrop of apathy until 2016

CURITIBA-the President and CEO of BMW Group Brazil, Arturo Piñero, yesterday predicted a scenario of apathy for the country until 2016, because of the slowdown and uncertainty of the Brazilian economy. "We have two and a half years ahead of very difficult, because of the slowing economy. We must be prepared to face this scenario of economic uncertainty and apathy, "said Piñero, on the 24th Congress of the National Federation of distribution of motor vehicles (Fenabrave) in Curitiba (PR).
Piñero believes that the difficulties for the Brazilian economy are independent of electoral scenario. According to him, the current Government has a policy "heterodox, focused social" and the opposition is "Orthodox, with a focus on competitiveness".
Despite the uncertainties, Piñero recalled that BMW has invested 240 million euros in the construction of a factory in Araquari (SC) and estimated to fall in the market for premium vehicles, such as the German company, and given that the Government charged a regulatory framework to give predictability to investors. "We need a framework for long-term investments in the country. You must have very clear, "he said.
He also criticized the lack of Brazil's trade agreements "with significant countries", the bureaucratic problems and infrastructure, in addition to the tax issue. "A new car has 54% of tax".
Punctual in the vision of the President of the National Association of Automotive vehicle manufacturers (Anfavea), Luiz Moan, the moment of difficulties faced by the sector is punctual and cyclical. "We know the situation on the market, but we have every reason to know that the moment is punctual and cyclical," he said.
Moan said that Brazil has one of the lowest rates of motorization in the world-relation between inhabitants and vehicles-and what to get, for example, to index of Argentina, 30 million more would be needed, the corresponding cars within 10 years of the annual Brazilian market. "Nobody invests this mountain of resources without knowing the future is promising," he repeated.
The Vice President of Anfavea, Antônio Carlos Botelho Mann, assesses, however, that Brazilian domestic consumption market is not keeping up with the growth in the production of automobiles in the country. Given this scenario, he defended as output to the sector focus on exports. He stated that to 2017, the entity's plan is to export 1 million units, 20% above capacity produced.
