GOVERNMENT WANTS TO POSTPONE ADJUSTMENT OF COLD DRINKS

The Government may postpone, once again, the tax increase on cold drinks. According to the Finance Minister, Guido Mantega, the Government has not given up on raising taxes for beers and soft drinks. The tax increase was planned to take place on the 1st of June, close to the World Cup. But, in the month of may Mantega announce that the postponement of the increase from September, after a threat from industry, and bars and restaurants to raise by as much as 12% liquor prices. A further postponement would have aimed to avoid additional pressures on inflation and avoid a political wear on the eve of the elections. On the other hand, the increase would help the Government to close the accounts in 2014. The readjustment would expand in r $ 1.5 billion proceeds of the year.
