Ambev and Kirin receive more funding

Disbursements of the Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (BNDES) for the beverage sector totaled r $ 7.3 billion between 2004 and 2013, with an annual average growth of 15.6%. The industry invested heavily in the last decade to increase the production capacity and consumption growth, coming from the increase in income of the population and the Organization of events such as the World Cup and Olympics. Of the total disbursed during the period, approximately 80% were directed at large companies, mainly Ambev Brazil and Kirin.
The tendency is that both BNDES disbursements by industry segment investments to be made in the next few years are only for maintenance of the industrial park, according to the Bank.
In the first quarter of this year, the institution closed two deals in the sector: Ambev and a smaller cooperative hired a total of R $ 936,6 million in credit. Almost all of these features was requested by the owner of the Guarana Antarctiva, for deployment, expansion and modernisation of plants and acquisition of machinery and equipment. The money will be released gradually, as the projects progress. The producers ' Cooperative Ecologists of Garibaldi, which manufactures sparkling, was the other contractor, in the amount of r $ 433,4 thousand.
The head of the Department of consumer goods and services of the industrial area of BNDES, Ana Cristina Rodrigues da Costa, says beverage companies increased investments in General, regardless of their size, but it is natural that those who hold the bulk of the market represent largest share of disbursements from the Bank.
According to Ana Cristina, the smaller manufacturers have difficulties in accessing distribution channels and one of the ways to increase sales, and increase the exposure of their products and the quality of the drink itself, is to invest in packaging, to try to entice the consumer. One of the subsectors that can do that is to craft breweries and microbreweries.
She said the liquor industry investments consolidated the companies strategy to diversify its product line, instead of offering only one type of drink. "Companies are with a trend to offer healthier products instead of being alone with sodas."
