Auto parts reach record deficit in the first half

Auto-parts trade balance data compiled from information from the Ministry of development, industry to foreign trade (MDIC) show that the Brazilian deficit in this segment came to record $ 4.72 billion in the first half, with high of 60.6% on the same period in 2012. Shipments, for 172 countries, fell 2.5% in comparison with the same period in 2012, totaling $ 5.04 billion. Imports, from 148 markets, increased 20.4% to $ 9,76 million. In June, imports totaled $ 1.6 billion and exports of $ 819,96 million, resulting in a monthly deficit of $ 779,58 million.
Year to date, South America remained the largest destination for Brazilian exports of automotive components, with 50.5% of the total and high of 6.53% compared to the first half of last year. In the Brazilian imports, the largest holdings were in Asia and Oceania, with 35.9%, and Europe, with 39.4%.
The biggest growth in the period was the Central America and Caribbean, 40.84%. The largest decline was in Africa, with 40.6% in January-June compared with the same period in 2012.
