Self-service terminals are high in Brazilian retail

There are at least two decades, the self checkouts have been singled out, at various times, as a trend for supermarkets. In practice, however, the self-service boxes, fairly common in the U.S. and retailers in Europe, never took off fully in stores in Brazil. Now, the story may be different. For a long time, the great service reference without help from officials in Brazil was only the ATM of banks. Today the practice is increasingly common in other threads. Is present, for example, in the always crowded fast food eateries. At McDonald's, customers can place orders and pay the Bill directly touch terminals since last year. The initiative is part of a plan to modernise the shops in which it was invested R $1.25 billion. On the network of Diners Bob's, the self-service was implemented in 2014. The initial goal was to bring modernization to all units until 2020, but with the positive results, the deadline has been brought forward to 2019. Investments like that help to break down the barrier that a lot of people still have to use the self-service. Indirectly, the supermarkets can be benefited. Since the middle of last year, Carrefour offers the self checkout at your unit concept, on the West side of São Paulo. The machines are limited to purchasing a few items and a technological scale indicates whether the consumer paid match what he's taking. Almost 9% of unit sales go through the self checkouts and, so far, there were no problems with shoplifting. According to Paula Carey, Executive Director, client services and digital transformation of Carrefour Brazil, the goal is to understand the consumer experience and infrastructure needs. The next step will be to plan the expansion to other stores.
