Sector of pharmacies and perfumeries is unique in that it grows in SP, reveals ACSP

Retail paulista is in its worst crisis. But a thread has drawn attention: the pharmacies and perfumeries, that can resist more to strong retractions. In the first four months of 2016, the sector was the only one who wasn''t in red, showing slight increase of 0.8% in sales volume, compared to the same period in 2015.
Meanwhile, sales in trade of the State as a whole retreated 7.6 percent on the same basis of comparison. The information is from the São Paulo commercial Association (ACSP).
During the same period, the turnover of the pharmacies and perfumeries grew 10.1% over the first quarter of 2015. This, however, is explained by the adjustment of 12.5% in the prices of drugs in April.
The data are in the survey that evaluates the performance of nine retail sectors and is elaborated by the Institute of Economics of ACSP, based on information from the Secretariat of Finance of the State of São Paulo in Brazil.
"There is a hierarchy in the consumption of the people: they prioritize remedies and foods and other products come after. High-value goods, which mainly depend on the credit and confidence, are postponed by the consumer in times of crisis, "said Alencar Burti, President of ACSP and the Federation of trade associations in the State of São Paulo (Facesp).
"Already the fluff can resist more because women substitute a product of first line for a Monday, finding a way to keep buying beauty products", complements Burti.
Other sectors
Considering all the nine sectors analyzed by ACSP, the worst results in the quarter compared with the same period of 2015 were in car dealerships ( -18.8%) and department stores, home appliances and electronics ( -17.6%), that are more dependent on financing and consumer confidence.
"The results are still negative, but there are prospects for easing the falls until the end of the year, due mainly to the gradual resumption of consumer confidence, as have indicated the latest indicators", concludes the President of ACSP.
