Sao Paulo retail fell 11.1 percent in the first half, ACSP

The Sales balance of the São Paulo commercial Association (ACSP) indicates that the retail trade in the city had an average fall of 11.1% in sales in the first half of this year ( -7% in sales and-15.2% in sales in sight).
To get an idea of how serious is this result, the first half of 2009-height of the international financial crisis-retraction 7.7% average presented. Interestingly, however, in that year, sales recuram 12.6% in the long term and vista sales fell 2.8%).
The reversal in the size of the falls and in 2009 and 2016 due to the fact that, in that year, the crisis has hit most of the credit, damaging the purchase of durable goods. In the first quarter of 2016, however, the Country has undergone a widespread crisis, a result also of rising unemployment, falling wages and rising dollar.
June
In June, sales in the city recorded an average drop of 1.5% in comparison with the same month of 2015-being 1.6% and-4.6% in sight. High in sales occurred in the long term by seeking greater, especially in the first half, of items such as showers, faucets and electric heaters. In addition, this is the first rise of the last 14 months in forward sales.
"Despite the bad result, we noticed an improvement in the month of June, which is heartening, as it might signal for a recovery in the second half. Although we do not have a positive year, it is likely that the falls if cool down until the end of the year, "says Alencar Burti, President of ACSP and the Federation of trade associations in the State of São Paulo (Facesp).
On the other hand, it is important to note that this June had one working day more in relation to 2015, which reinforces the complicated moment of retail, since, if it wasn''t for this additional day, the fall would be greater.
In the monthly variation, i.e. on May of that year, presented high 0.5 percent June sales and 0.2% in sales in sight (0.35%) average elevation.
The positive result once again stems from the popularity of items intended for the cold and, interestingly, reverses the seasonality typical of the month, traditionally presents results worse than may.
"In may, we have mother''s day, the second-leading retail date. It is, therefore, a strong month for the industry. However, this year, the holiday of Corpus Christi fell just in may, that hurt a little performance in the month. Adding to this the fact that June also had one working day more than may and strong falls in temperatures, we have reached this positive result of June, "said Burti.
