Nestlé denies suspension of business in South Sudan

Swinging notes of news agencies, company says there was only interruption of face-to-face
Nespresso, a division of Nestlé, Switzerland announced this Wednesday (5/10) a communiqué in which denies the suspension of imports of coffee from South Sudan. The news was conveyed earlier in the week by news outlets, attributing the information to a representative of the African unit of the company.
Independent of the Sudan since 2011, South Sudan is experiencing a moment of escalation of violence, especially in the South, since it entered in civil war in 2013. Last week, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has disclosed that about 100000 people were prevented from leaving a town besieged by Government forces.
In the country, Nespresso maintains a program to encourage small farmers to the coffee production and trade, combined with training programs. From the business, the company hopes to place on the market a new line of capsules for machines.
In the statement, the company "confirms" that his commitment to the coffee growers sul-sudaneses is long-term and coffee imports have not been interrupted. The new capsule of South Sudan should be released sometime this month in at least five countries, not yet officially revealed.
According to the note, which was interrupted was the on-site training of coffee growers, performed by an organization that is also a partner of Nespresso in the country. The content of these trainings will be transmitted by a weekly radio program on agronomy.
