Physical packaging production has dropped in the first half of 2014

The Brazilian Packaging Association (Abre), announced the results of Macroeconomic Study of Packing "performance of the packaging industry: closing the first half of 2014 and the prospects for the second".
The study, released by open for 16 years and coordinated by economist Solomon Paintings, Coordinator of economic analyses of the Ibre/FGV (Fundação Getúlio Vargas), reveals that the prospects for the sector's production value for 2014 are to the tune of r $ 56 billion, compared to R $ 51.8 billion generated by the industry in 2013.
Among the data revealed in the study, is also the index of performance of physical production of packaging, which in the first half of 2014 varied negatively in 0.73% as compared to the same period in 2013. This fall is more concentrated in the second quarter, when production receded in two of the three months.
Of the five classes of materials belonging to the packaging sector, only metallic presented positive balance: 5.92% growth in the first half. The other four showed negative rates: paper ( -1.99%), plastic ( -1.39), glass ( -1.17%) and wood ( -22.44).
The level of employment of the packaging industry reached 230,909 jobs, an increase of 719 posts, compared to June 2013. For Solomon Paintings, Coordinator of the study, "the rate of employment growth, which began last year, around 2%, comes back since then," says the Economist.
The plastics industry is still employing more: 52.72% of the total employees, according to data measured by the end of the first half.
"In a comparison, without distinction by type of material, between the performances of the first semesters, in 2013 about 2012, the growth had been of 6.57%. Already among the first half of 2014, compared to the first of 2013, the variance is negative, the order of -4.11%, a considerable pullback, "says Solomon.
For this year, the most likely scenario for the packaging sector is stability. If the modest recovery expected in the second half, implied in this scenario, do not materialize, the physical production of packaging could retreat 0.7%. "The data do not reveal a very encouraging situation or optimistic. However, we have to remember that the packing industry is an accurate portrayal and real economic situation of the country. Everyone knows that the industry in General has suffered enough in recent months, "declares Frames.
In the vision of Gisela Schulzinger, President of opens, the scenario is of attention. "We conducted this study as a way to provide reliable information about the performance of our industry. Is based on this information to orient our associates, "he says.
To the President of the Open, we must seek alternatives to dribble more arid scenarios. "We have to look for creative solutions, propose innovative ways to bypass adverse situations." "The Open is always ready to receive proposals and at the same time stimulate actions accordingly; This is our role, "says Gisela.
