The automotive sector remains the largest importer of the country

Value reaches $ 20.7 billion in 2013 and causes trade deficit $ 9.7 billion
Even after a year of the duration of the Innovate-Auto, program that aims to increase the content and national development of vehicles manufactured in Brazil, the Brazilian automotive sector remains the largest importer of the country. According to consolidated data this week by the Ministry of development, industry and foreign trade (MDIC), last year imports of passenger cars (US $ 9.08 billion, second-highest tariff), auto parts (US $ 8.3 billion, fourth) and trucks ($ 3.34 billion in 11th) amount to $ 20.7 billion, figuring that way in first place of the main imported products – ahead even of external purchases of petroleum ($ 16.3 billion).
The difference from one year to the next is that exports of assembled vehicles (passenger and cargo) rose significantly to $ 5.8 billion in 2012 to $ 7.7 billion, while imports have not changed, were stable at $ 12.5 billion in both years. Due to increased external sales of automobiles, whereas just vehicles the trade balance deficit has been reduced by $ 2 billion from one year to the next, $ 6.7 billion to $ 4.7 billion.
But the result was negatively offset by the rise in the value of imported auto parts, $ 6.7 billion to $ 8.3 billion, against small drop in export cipher, $ 3.8 billion to $ 3.3 billion, resulting in a deficit of almost $ 5 billion in the balance of components, compared with $ 3 billion a year earlier. It is worth remembering, however, that the figures disclosed by the MDIC correspond to less than half of the nearly 500 items used in manufacturing and vehicle maintenance. The complete data are still being consolidated by the Sindipeças, which brings together about 500 industry suppliers, but the projection is that the negative balance of auto parts in 2013 put us $ 10.5 billion.
