Android has 80% of smartphone market

The data reveal a worrying scenario for Apple, which has seen its share in sales of smartphones shrink from 16.6% to 13.2% in one year. Amount of iPhones sold increased by 20% this quarter, compared to the same period in 2012, but that wasn't enough to keep up with the pace of growth of the Android system — this in an extensive offer of various manufacturers in different sizes and with different configurations.
The number of Android smartphones reached 187.4 million during the period (73.5%) increase, while Apple sold 31.2 million units of the iPhone (all versions available). A year ago, the Android had 69.1% of sales.
"The decline of iOS in the second quarter is in line with the (release) of the iPhone," said IDC analyst Ramon Llamas, in a statement. "Without releasing a new product since the iPhone 5 debut almost a year ago, Apple's participation was vulnerable to new competitors. But a new iPhone, with the new iOS System 7, expected for this year, Apple is well positioned to take back the market. "
Samsung leads sales of Android, with 73.3 million units sold, and 39.1% stake among the appliances that use the Google system. Next comes the LG, with 6.5% share, Lenovo (6.1%), Huawei (5.4%) and ZTE (5.4%). Other manufacturers make up the rest of the sales, with 37.5% of the market.
Other platforms. The scenario is more serious for the BlackBlerry, who sold 11.7 percent less than in the second quarter of 2012, with 6.8 million unit. This gives the company 2.9% stake in industry — last year was 4.9%-, which aggravates the situation of manufacturers. In February, the company launched new appliances in an attempt to recover the market, but the numbers remain weak.
Unlike the BlackBerry, Windows Phone managed to expand with more strength. In the second quarter, were sold 8.7 million units of smartphones with the Microsoft platform — a year ago, were 4.9 million units. In terms of participation, the change was minor. Windows Phone reached 3.7% market share in the period, compared to 3.1% last year.
