Rehearse recovery sector and grows 4% until April, says Anip

After two consecutive years of decline, the tire industry gives signs of recovery in 2013, at the ED of the growth of sales of vehicles. From January to April, the tyre production in the country rose 4%, compared to the previous year, reaching 22.3 million units, according to a survey of Anip, the entity that represents the industry. Already sales rose 6.9% to 23.9 million tires in the first four months of the year.
Contributed to the advancement of 17% in the production of automakers, as a result of the resumption of sales of trucks and almost 9% growth in car plates issued with maintenance of discounts in the tax on industrialized products (IPI). "The IPI reduction has helped a lot," says the President of Anip, Alberto Mayer, who predicts a growth of 5% of the tyre production this year, to a volume of approximately 66 million units. According to the Association, the sector opened 744 jobs this year, expanding the employees of companies to 26.9 thousand contractors.
The largest demand of automakers, however, has been partially offset by more aggressive entry of imported, in addition to losses in overseas markets. While imports rose 25.5 percent in the first quarter to 9.7 million tires-exports, in the opposite direction, showed 10.6% drop, adding 4.3 million units in the period.
According to the balance of the Anip, imports from China-principal source, with more than half of the total imported-grow 16.5% this year, to just over 5 million tires until April.
In the war against the imported, the snake government sector measures such as greater supervision on products of low quality or arriving to the country irregularly, and speed in anti-dumping proceedings. Over the past two years, the tire industry in Brazil has accumulated 6.8% drop, closing 2012 with 62.7 million units produced. "We are seeing what you can suggest [the Government] to improve competitiveness," says Mayer.
"The tire industry holds state-of-the-art technology, manufactures products tailored to Brazilian conditions and contributing to positive balance for the balance of trade. But in the last two years the situation was reversed, due to increased costs in Brazil and uneven competition with imported, "he adds.
