Brasilata will have new steel can plant in Rio de Janeiro

Brasilata S/A Embalagens Metálicas, a company that operates in the national production of steel packaging, will inaugurate two new manufacturing units in the municipality of Barra do Piraí, in Rio de Janeiro, near CSN – Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional, the main supplier of raw materials in the production of metal packaging lines.
The subsidiary CIMEP – Companhia Industrial de Metais e Plásticos, of the Brasilata group, expects the start of operations of the first unit – of a transitional nature – for the month of August of this year. In this first unit, the company will operate in a rented warehouse of 8,000 m² in the California neighborhood of Barra.
"The plant in the state of Rio de Janeiro was an old dream of Brasilata, and the choice of the municipality was due to its privileged location, not only because of the distance from CSN and subsequent distribution to other production units in Brasilata, but also because of the well-known skilled labor of the metal-mechanical sector of the region," says Tiago Heleno Forte, CEO of Brasilata.
"We have already acquired a plot of land for the construction of the second plant – of a definitive nature – that will have 100,000 m², of which 18,000 m2 will initially be built area", forte reveals, mentioning that the total investment of the project is estimated at R$ 70 million, and by the end of July, R$ 21.3 million has already been invested in the purchase of land, in machinery and facilities.
The company will also have 46 employees at this initial stage and, by completion, the project is expected to generate approximately 200 jobs in the operation, in addition to those resulting from the construction works of the main plant.
The new Barra do Piraí unit will be a hub that will supply the other four Brasilata plants in the country (in addition to the Barra do Piraí plant, the company has 4 more units: Jundiai-SP, Estrela-RS, Rio Verde-GO and Recife-PE).
In the future plant, the company's goal is to rely on cutting equipment for tintree leaves, varnishers, presses – which are the machines that make the components (caps, rings and bottoms) of the cans. In addition, investment is planned in plastic injectors to manufacture the covers and plastic components used in packaging lines.
In the first half of this year, Brasilata had transferred the operations of its former unit in São Paulo (SP) to a new plant in the municipality of Jundiaí (SP). The unit already operates with the rows of cans for paints and chemicals, normally serving the market. In addition, the company also invested in rows of cans for food.
With all this set of logistic and operational rearrangement, Brasilata projects to further increase its productivity and operational efficiency, consolidating its leading position in the metal packaging sector.
Brasilata was voted the best packaging company to work for in Brazil in 2018 and 2019, and was highlighted among the Best Companies to start a career according to Você S/A Magazine.
