Latam leaves alliance with airlines from May

Latam will stop joining Oneworld, an alliance with other airlines, starting May 1 this year. The company also announced that it will close the partnership with American Airlines. In a statement, Latam reported the benefits of Oneworld continue until April 30 and that, despite the departure, it will maintain bilateral agreements with 11 companies that are part of the alliance: British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Jordanian, S7 Airlines and SriLankan Airlines. According to the company, these bilateral agreements will allow the purchase of airline tickets on the websites of partner companies, accumulation and redemption of points, as well as reciprocal access to vip rooms. Regarding the closure of the partnership with American Airlines, Latam said passengers will no longer be able to accumulate or redeem points or access the VIP rooms. "However, LATAM will respect all American Airlines flight tickets that were redeemed with LATAM Pass points before May 1, 2020, for up to 12 months after that date," the airline said. The change in the company's positioning is against the backdrop of the agreement signed with Delta Airlines in September last year. In it, Delta announced the purchase 20% of Latam for $1.9 billion. Since Saturday (1st), Latam has moved operations at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York from Terminal 8 to Terminal 4, delta's responsibility.
