Profit of the owner of Claro in Brazil drops 31% in the third quarter

América Móvil, controller of Claro in Brazil, recorded a profit of 13.03 billion Mexican pesos in the third quarter of 2019 (US $675.3 million), a decrease of 31% in comparison with the same period of 2018. On the same basis of comparison, total net revenues had a slight high of 0.2%, to 248.4 billion Mexican pesos. The profit before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) totaled 78.8 billion Mexican pesos, 9.5% higher compared to the third quarter of 2018. According to the company's results report, despite the global context of economic slowdown and exchange rate depreciation (in Colombia and Argentina), the company had revenue growth, mainly in services, of 2.5%. The company highlights the increase of 4.6% in mobile telephony services, with expansion of 11.1% in Brazil, 8.2% in Mexico and 4.7% in Colombia. In the third quarter of 2019, the company also registered 1.6 million of new subscribers in the post-paid, being 928,000 only in Brazil and 215,000 in Mexico.
