Sales in supermarkets from São Paulo have 2% high in 2017

After two consecutive years observing fall in sales, the entrepreneurs supermarket might feel slight resumption of growth of the sector. In accordance with the APAS (São Paulo supermarket Association), the actual billing of the supermarkets in the State of São Paulo in 2017 (deflated by IPS-APAS/FIPE), the concept of same stores (which considers the units in operation in minimum time of 12 months), pointed to a growth of 2%, as compared to 2016. Already in the concept of all stores (which considers all units created in the period researched), the cumulative 2017 was even bigger and reached 5%. The month of December, increased 7.04% compared to 2016-good performance, since for the same month of 2016 as a result of-2.08%. Another point of emphasis in the analysis of the Association were sales in December. "In a more optimistic scenario, the projected growth of APAS 2.5% last month from 2017. The effort proved to be higher, with increased sales in the order of 3%, "said Thiago Berka, Economist of the entity. The nominal revenue of supermarkets in the State of São Paulo, in January to December 2017, presented high 2.50% at the same store concept. Already in the concept of all the stores, the high was 5.41% YTD. Performance on Christmas Traditionally the month of December is the best for the supermarket sector in sales volume and revenues. In the last month of 2017, the average increased by 2.67% ticket compared to 2016, while the volume of sales increased by 1.4%, which, to the Economist of APAS, means that consumers bought higher-value products. "Consumers sought do not greatly increase the basket of products, however, made a selection of items with higher added value, because, in December in the supermarkets, there was 0.27%, inflation in Sao Paulo in accordance with IPS indicator, measured by APAS/FIPE," explained Berka. Another factor that has shown good performance in December was to improve productivity. "Both checkout and billing rates per square metre increased, respectively, 2% and 3.3%, allowing you to maintain competitive price policies as was a constant in the last three months of the year," the Economist concluded. If 2017 2018 expectations was a year of slight upturn for supermarkets paulistas, 2018 promises to be even more favorable. For the APAS, the expectation of growth at the end of this year, the same shops, is 2.5% to 3%. If this really happens, is it possible that the supermarket sector to recover the losses accumulated in 2015 and 2016.
