Ashland bet in the Brazilian market and enhances investment in country

With the recent acquisition of Pharmachem Laboratories, for $ $660 million, the North American company, a global leader in specialty chemicals, will bring technologies nutraceutical properties (that prevent disease) and personal care for its laboratories in Brazil. The plants are located in the cities of Cabreúva and Araçariguama, both in the State of São Paulo in Brazil. This will enable, for example, develop aloe vera based products.
"Immediately, the factory of Cabreúva will start producing coatings for pills," says Alessandro Moraes, Director-General of Ashland for Latin America. He doesn't reveal the value of the investment by the company policy. But the labs around the Country should grow 60 percent in the short term.
With annual revenues of about $ $300 million and 14 factories in the United States and in Mexico, the Pharmachem develops, manufactures and provides nutritional products and fragrances. The company's CEO, Bill Wulfsohn, was in Brazil between 15 and 17 August.
"This combination will improve our position in the final markets of nutraceuticals with rapid growth, open a new opportunity in fragrances and flavours, and strengthen the food ingredients business of Ashland ™, Wulfsohn said.
Present in more than 100 countries, the Ashland is a global company, leader in the development, manufacture and marketing of specialty chemicals. Meets a wide range of industrial and consumer markets, including personal care and pharmaceutical products, architectural coatings, adhesives, automotive, construction, energy, food and drinks.

In Brazil, the company has a plant of thermosetting resins which operates in Araçariguama. The resins are raw materials of composites, high-performance plastic types present in the sectors of construction, transportation and wind energy, among others.
In the town of Cabreúva, is located the plant of additives for the food industry, beverages and nutraceuticals, to where are directed the resources and investments needed to absorb the demand generated with the acquisition of Pharmachem.
"We hope to leverage our extensive network of sales channels, technical services and global applications laboratories to accelerate the growth of Pharmachem in the world," says Alexandre Moraes.
On the market of nutraceuticals
According to ABRAFARMA (Brazilian Association of Pharmacies and Drugstores) pharmaceutical industry dribbled the economic crisis and grew roughly 12.55% last year, even in the face of an unfavourable scenario, with unemployment hitting record.
