Wholesale distributor industry grows 0.6% in 2016 and invoice $250.5 bi

Sao Paulo-the Brazilian Association of wholesalers and distributors (ABAD) today released (24) the results of the Ranking ABAD/Nielsen 2017-base year 2016, survey conducted annually by the entity that offers the most comprehensive overview of national distributor wholesaler segment, with relevant data for all companies that make up the supply chain in the country.
According to the search results ranked in 2016 the wholesaler distributor segment grew by 0.6% in real terms and 6.9% in nominal terms, reaching a turnover of 250.5 billion R$. The result, although approaches stability, is considered satisfactory, considering that last year, the GDP (gross domestic Product) suffered -3.6 retraction%.
With that, the distribution agents respond today for a slice of 53.7% of the national mercearil, comprising common household products, such as food, beverages, cleaning, hygiene and personal care and reached the sum of R$ 466.2 billion in 2016. Is the twelfth consecutive year in which the wholesale distributor''s participation in this market remains above 50%.
The numbers are calculated from data supplied voluntarily by companies associated with ABAD and analyzed by Nielsen consulting, in partnership with the FIA (Fundação Instituto de Administração).
Atacarejo X Hypermarkets
The atacarejo billing grew 11.3% in 2016, consolidating this model as an important channel of supply of the families in this time of high unemployment and search for economy. "It is important to note that the atacarejo doesn''t take too much market business models such as the Distributor and wholesaler with delivery," explains the President of ABAD, Emerson Destro.
Instead, according to Nilsen, the atacarejo has bothered especially the hypermarkets, which had 7.4 percent fall in 2016 compared to 2015. Today, families have made purchases (higher volume) in atacarejo to the detriment of hypermarkets. Replacement purchases (weekly or daily) are still made in the neighborhood retail (main client sector Wholesaler Distributor).
"Even the neighborhood retail and fall compared to last year ( -5.1%), on account of the tax cuts to families by the economic situation, this trend remains and supply should grow back as soon as there is a resumption of job growth", concluded the President of the entity.
In this year''s Ranking, the positive result is accompanied by the back of expectations of improvement in revenue, volume and profitability in all business models of distribution.
