Retail paulista starts the year with 4.2% growth in sales

In the first month of the year, retail paulista as a whole recorded actual billing R$ 48.4 billion, up 4.2% in comparison with January 2016, about $2 billion above the calculated amount last year. It was the fourth best result for the month of January since the beginning of the series, in 2008. In the past 12 months, the industry has presented high 0.8%.
The data are of PCCV (Economic Survey of the retail trade in the State of São Paulo), conducted monthly by FecomercioSP (Federation of trade in goods, services and tourism of the State of São Paulo), based on information the Sefaz-SP (Secretaria da Fazenda do Estado de São Paulo).

Among the 16 regions analyzed by the Federation, only Osasco ( -10.3%), Bauru ( -4%) and Guarulhos ( -1.6%) recorded a fall in sales in January, compared with the same month of 2016. The best performances were observed in the regions of Marília (13.4%), London (12.8%) and Ribeirão Preto (11.4%).

According to FecomercioSP''s economic advice, the improvement in retail sales paulista was motivated by several factors, such as the creation of slots, the fall in inflation and interest rates, increase in agricultural income due to the strong increase in exports of commodities (sector in which São Paulo has strong presence), which also help in the improvement in the indicators of consumer confidence and business people.
