APAs: supermarket sales in SP at Easter should grow 2% before 2016

SAO PAULO-The Easter sales in supermarkets should grow 2% in real terms this year compared to 2016, according to data from the São Paulo supermarket Association (Apas). It is expected that 2017 represents an improvement in sales of supermarkets in São Paulo after the actual sales have been negative in the past Easter.
In nominal terms, without discounting inflation, sales of seasonal items should grow 8% according to Apas. Considering only the chocolates, the entity designs that sales will have: average growth of 12% in nominal terms.
Chocolate eggs, however, may not be the biggest highlight. According to the Economics and research manager of Apas, Rodrigo Mariano, consumer preference should be for lower-price items. Boxes of chocolates and chocolate bars may replace the eggs before the impact of low availability of consumer income assessed Mariano in note.
The Apas believes that the prices of chocolates this Easter day are between 6% and 8% higher than last year.
In addition to chocolates, the items considered and have greater seasonal sale in the period are fish, especially cod, in addition to wines, olive oils and Colomba pascal. Easter is the second most important date for retail food sales, behind only Christmas.
