Brazilians want to buy less at the beginning of 2017, says CNC

RIO-Brazilian consumers remain less likely to shop at the beginning of year. The intention of household consumption (ICF), established by the National Confederation of trade in goods, services and tourism (CNC), reached 76.2 points in January, stable level compared to the previous month, but 1.7% less than that registered in January last year.
The survey considers a range of 0 to 200. The result under 100 points indicates a sense of dissatisfaction with current conditions, stressed the CNC.
Despite the breakthrough in confidence indicators, the improvement has not yet been effectively transformed into sales, mainly due to the high cost of credit, unemployment and the fall in income, justified the entity.
"The fall in the number of employees with officially registered, the smaller mass of yield and high interest rate contributed to the decline in the sale of non-essential items such as durable goods and semi-durable goods. The consumer is cautious, avoiding creating debt, assessed the economic advisor of the Confederation, Juliana Serapio, in official statement.
The only component that was above the zone of indifference in January was the for the current job, which reached 105.6 points. The performance represents a setback of 1% compared to December 2016, but, in comparison with January last year, an increase of 1.2%. The percentage of families who feel safer in relation to current job was at 31.3%.
