Supermarket sales Record High of 0.80%

According to the national index OPEN sales, sales of the supermarket sector recorded high of 0.80% from January to August, compared with the same period in 2015. In August, sales at actual-values deflated by the IPCA/IBGE, presented a drop-2.65% compared to July and high of 1.73% as compared to the same month of the previous year. Already in nominal values, the industry showed sales drop-2.22% in comparison to 2015 and, when compared to August last year, up 10.87 percent. Year to date, sales rose 10.34%. "The industry''s sales index shows a stabilisation, increasing our prospects for a second half better than the first." says the Superintendent of OPEN, Tojo Mathew.

The biggest falls were in the items: onions, potatoes, beans and beef front. In addition, in August, the only high price was registered in the northeast (2.03%), reaching R$ 425.57. While the most expensive basket was recorded in the northern region, which has taken in August R$ 531.22.
