GPA will open CD exclusive to e-commerce

The GPA (Grupo Pão de Açúcar), controlled by the French retailer Casino, will inaugurate until December a distribution center in São Paulo, dedicated exclusively to food products sold by e-commerce Extra flag and Sugarloaf.
Food sales over the internet in the GPA serve approximately 50000 requests per month. In this first semester, this channel has registered a sales growth of 18%, in comparison with the same period last year. In 2015, there were about 600,000 purchases made by these sites, according to the company.
Among the items most sought after by the channel are products such as milk, toilet paper, water, premium beers, coffees and cleaning products. The perishable items also include: requests for meats and fresh produce have registered growth of 22.5% in network sites.
According to the GPA, the numbers of enrolled in e-commerce channels have also increased, confirming the arrival of new consumers shopping food fans over the internet. The company registered an increase of 12% in the number of customers registered in the first half, compared to the same period of the previous year.
The biggest internet marketing spurred the GPA to launch this year''s Viva Wines, making his debut in the Club subscriptions. For this channel, the client chooses the plan, the amount of bottles and receives every month labels selected by network specialists. The GPA was the pioneer in Brazil in e-commerce, with the launch of the Pão de açucar Delivery in 1995.
