Production falls 21.6% year to date, but improves in may, says Abinee

Electronics industry production of 21.6% in the downturn pointed accumulated from January to may of 2016 as compared to the same period last year. The result is due to a fall of 29.8% in the production of electronic industry and 14.9% in the electrical industry, according to figures released by the IBGE and aggregated by the Brazilian electrical and electronics industry (Abinee).
Compared to the month of May compared with April, the electronics industry''s production grew by 1.2%. The performance occurred due to increase of 6.3% in the electronics industry, once the 2.0% electric retreated.
"This result gives us some encouragement and I hope I can still indicate a principle of resumption, that is, have we reached the bottom. But the losses were so significant that we will need to go through an extremely long way for us to recover, "said the President of Abinee, Humberto Barbato.
In may 2016 compared with the same month of 2015, the industry''s production shrank by 12.1%. This was the 24th consecutive drop of production in the industry as compared to the same month of the previous year.
