How will the operation of the McDonald''s in the Olympics

São Paulo-official sponsor of the Olympic Games, McDonald''s set up a huge operation to serve snacks to more than 10000 athletes and about 25000 visitors everyday. For this, began the process of selection of 250 employees almost a year ago.
The company will have three structures for the Olympics and Paralympics: a restaurant for athletes, a dessert kiosk for visitors and a McCafé for American broadcaster NBC.
The official restaurant, with 500 m ², staying in the athletes '' village. That year the company gave a jump: rather than assemble the structure in the food court that only athletes have access, decided to stay in the international area.
So, in addition to 10000 competitors, the Big Macs will also be available to their family members, coaches, officials and the press, in addition to officials and local workers.
"Before, the restaurant was in the middle of other power options. Now, isolated, becomes target of sportsmen and will change the movement of visitors, "said David Grinberg, Director of the golden arches, McDonald''s operator in Latin America, and responsible for the Olympic program.
The location is slightly different from the traditional spaces. The menu is reduced to be more efficient and the breakfast will be served all day.
Not were left out, however, the McNuggets, preferred snack runner Usain Bolt, and the Big Mac, adored by the swimmer Michael Phelps.
Outer space is the dessert kiosk, located in the Olympic Park and accessible to anyone with tickets for the games.
But it''s not a simple kiosk: he takes first place on the podium as the largest dessert kiosk of the company in the world.
With an area of 200 m ², the store will have 5 lines of cash and 57 employees. As a comparison, a common kiosk has 8 m to 12 m ² ² and a maximum of 3 people.
The menu is also reduced to four options: Cone, Sundae, McFlurry and water. Prices will be the same as practiced in the restaurants of Rio de Janeiro.
The expectation is to serve about 25,000 people a day of one of the world''s largest McDonald''s, in Itaquera, São Paulo, serves approximately of 6,000 customers every day.
To win this race with obstacles, officials will have a different approach. They will prepare the ice cream in advance to speed up service.
"The machine will produce desserts all the time. Not even time for the ice cream melt, because we know that will demand, "says Grindberg.
Selection and training
In the restaurant of the Olympic village will work 91 employees, from São Paulo, and in the dessert kiosk will be 57, all of Rio de Janeiro.
However, more than 250 people have been trained for the operation and will be ready for the relay, if something happens with the official team.
The selection Marathon began in August last year. Initially, the company identified the requirements for an operation of this size, such as efficiency, seniority and availability.
Basic English is also a requirement, but the knowledge of the language need not be so deep, since the names of the snacks are international.
Were chosen only employees of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. As these cities have a large number of restaurants, the staff couldn''t miss and gymnastics to relocate the team is smaller.
They were evaluated by their managers and have gone through several behavioral tests. McDonald''s wanted to make sure they stand up to the test of resistance to work for almost a month away from home, living in a hotel with colleagues.
Every two weeks, the Human Resources Department joins the team to pass information and ask questions about the event, accommodation and the team. "Let''s pass the rules of the game and let all motivated," said the Director.
"The games have brought us the benefit of knowing who are the best people on our team," says Grindberg, in addition to being an intensive training for any situation.
It will also be an opportunity for the company to test new concepts, like breakfast throughout the day and attendance in two steps, the application and removal of the snack.
When you finish the games, McDonald''s expects employees spread the motivation for his team.
"They will work at a breakneck pace, but will have the opportunity to participate in the Olympic Games, to find their idols and stay in 5 star hotels facing the sea," said the Director.
