Fall of 6.1% in the service sector is the largest for may since 2012

In may, the volume of the country''s services sector shrank by 6.1% compared to the same period last year-the biggest fall of historical series, starting in 2012, for the month. In comparison with April, the low was lower, of 0.1 percent, according to the Brazilian Institute of geography and statistics (IBGE) reported on Wednesday (13). In the year, the sector builds up 5.1% drop and, in 12 months, of 4.8%.
Compared to the previous year, what influenced the general rate of the service sector were transport, that showed falling 9.1 percent, pushed mainly by air transport performance ( -15.1%) and terrestrial ( -10.5%). On April, the advance was 0.5%.
Also weighed the behavior of professional, administrative services and complementary. About 2015, the retraction was 7.8% and compared to may against April this year there were high of 0.7% in May.
The services provided to families retreated 7% and front of April, there was stability. It was also registered strong drop in tourist activities, 8.9%, which are also analysed in the survey. In comparison to April 2016, there was growth of 0.4%.
According to Roberto Saldanha, services and trade analyst of IBGE, in the month, the "slight retraction [de -0.1], practically accompanied the growth of the industrial sector, which was stable compared to April. This shows how the service sector depends on the performance of the industrial sector ".
Regional analysis, compared to April, the service sector registered the worst results in Paraíba ( -2.5%), in the federal district ( -2.2%) and Mato Grosso ( -1.9%). On the other hand, the segment grew up in Acre (3.9%), Pará (2.1%) and Ceará (1.5%).
In comparison with the same month of the previous year, the services sector has grown in Ceará (1.5%) and in Tocantins (0.8%). Against the grain, retreated in Amapá ( -17.1%), Bahia ( -12.7%) and in Paraíba ( -12.6%).
