Bunge and Amaggi extend partnership for disposal

St. Paul-Bunge and Amaggi announced that broadened the partnership initiated in 2014, when it formed the joint venture Unitapajós (United Navigations Tapajós) to operate in the North corridor, through the navigation on the waterway of the Tapajós-Amazon.
The transaction, subject to approval of the Administrative Council for economic Defense (Cade), provides for the acquisition by Amaggi''s 50% of Transhipment station, in Miritituba, and the port Terminal, in Barcarena, assets that form the Miritituba-port complex Barcarena (PA) of Bunge, thus enabling a shared management of all local actions of the company.
"This operation is fully aligned with Bunge''s strategy to optimize its assets and seek strategic partnerships to capture growth opportunities, contributing to the success of the business. I''ve experienced similar situations in other regions with very positive results for all involved, "said Raul Padilla, President of Bunge Brazil.
Logistic feasibility
With a fleet of 90 barges and an annual handling capacity of 3,500,000 tons of grain, the Unitapajós has confirmed the viability of the Northern Corridor logistics as an option to the ports in the South and Southeast of the country.
"For Amaggi, after two years of operation of the Unitapajós, this new step strengthens our presence in the region, in accordance with the company''s strategic growth plan, but also contributes to the development of a logistics route critical to the development of the country," said Waldemir Lotus, ceo of Amaggi.
The expansion of the partnership between the two companies did not change the business activities or the operation of grain flow.
Soybeans and corn, carried by the Northern Corridor to Asia or Europe, reducing the logistical system of the Southeast and contributing to the development of the northern region.
