Pre-printed coil to the bottle

When, last March, Eker has launched, in Turkey, Ayran (drink cold salty yogurt-based, common in countries of the region, such as Saudi Arabia and Iran), a new possibility for packaging the milk market was taking shape. It was the first time in the world, polypropylene bottles formed from pre-printed coils arrived at gondolas, a project whose development took about a year between design and market launch. The production of packaging for dairy industry from coils is already common in yogurt cups, and begins to be viable in other formats.
It is an evolution of technology named Roll N Blow, the French manufacturer Serac, who had adherents in their version of formation of bottles without decoration. The process, called by the vertical thermoforming company, is to seal the sides of the plastic coil (PP or PS, with the possibility of use of EVOH), turning it by means of a weld, a tube that is later heated, expanded by blowing and cut (view 191 EmbalagemMarca).
Packages leave directly from the processing line for the filling. "As the process uses heat and leave closed bottles blowing step, being refiladas right before they went to the rinsers, no contamination inside the packing, which avoids the need for a chemical decontamination process for packaging fresh milk drinks," explains Fabienne Chériaux, marketing manager of Serac in France. "The process ensures a high level of hygiene for the bottles."
In the design phase, the only additional care in relation to the creation of blown bottles is the development of a suitable transfer neck of cartons for packaging machines. "It is possible to make curves or bottles with flat walls, with very similar appearance to the packaging made in conventional blasting, but with greater mechanical resistance."
The products so far released in this type of packaging (yogurt drink, in Russia, in Morocco and in Belarus, and fermented milk on Turkey itself) had white bottles, decorated with heat shrinkable labels. The news, in the case of Eker, is the Elimination of the step of labelling. "The fact that you don''t have to incorporate an operation to label the packages in your line was important in the client''s decision to adopt the solution Roll N Blow", said Fabienne Chériaux. "Another point that weighed was the smallest area to be destined for storage, since the PP coils take up less space that have bottles blown."
According to information passed to the story of EmbalagemMarca, Eker would be releasing two new packaging formats manufactured on equipment of Serac.
