BASF enhances its global network of production of additives for plastics

Over the next five years BASF plans to invest more than EUR 200 million worldwide on its plastic additives business, with approximately half of the investment will be in Asia, with a focus on capacity expansion and operational excellence. The plastics additives improve the properties of the products, such as resistance to scratches or stability in presence of light, and optimize the plastics manufacturing processes.
As the main global supplier of additives for plastics, with industrial assets in all regions, BASF is a great partner of industries of this sector.
"BASF will strengthen its plastic additives business by investing in additional capacity, in order to meet the growing global demand for antioxidants, as well as light stabilizers. In addition, we will invest in digital processes and technology to support our customers, acting as a reliable supplier in all regions, "said Christian Fischer, President of the Division of BASF''s Performance chemicals.
Investments are concentrated in capacity expansions at sites in North America and Europe, as well as in automation, digital technologies and modeling. BASF also plans to improve its ecological footprint in the production of additives for plastics in Asia.
Innovation based on modern chemistry
In addition to the investments, innovation continues to be an integral part of BASF''s business strategy. At the K show in Düsseldorf, in Germany, the business of additives for plastics has recently launched two new light stabilizers:
· The Tinuvin ® 880, based in modern chemistry, is a light stabilizer of an average molecular weight, which provides a significant improvement, especially in automotive interior applications with the added benefit of offering greater thermal stability.
· The Tinuvin ® XT 55 provides formulators durability and secondary properties, such as color stability, gas and discoloration resistance to extraction. With this new solution, the cost benefit achieved will be excellent through the adjustment of dosage and other components of the formulation at the end of the conditions of application.
