At the age of 90 years, cooperative Batavo changes name to Friesland

The traditional cooperative Batavo, founded by the Dutch for 90 years, will call Friesland Agroindustrial Cooperative. Just like the previous one, the new name indicates a region of the Netherlands. The cooperative is located in Carambeí (PR), close to Curitiba.
Besides the name change, the cooperative goes to invest more in pig production, advances to Tocantins, inaugurates a milk unit in Itapetininga (SP) and already has as a goal the entry in the energy sector.
The advance in pig production will also enable the former Batavo increase meat processing. In the next few weeks, to put in operation the largest Frisian farm of pigs on the Latin America.
With investments of r $ 40 million and components imported from Germany and the United States, the new unit will house 5,000 arrays and produce 500 piglets a day.
The goal is bold. Associated with two other cooperatives in the region-and-Paraná, Capal Frisia began to industrialize new products.
In the pork industry, the goal is to reach a total of 90 thousand breeding arrays in ten years, which will ensure the placement of 9,200 animals a day in the fridge of the three cooperatives. At least 25% of that volume will be provided by Friesland.
The advancement of pig farming is important to the members of the cooperative, according to Renato Greidanus, President of the entity.
Strong in the cultivation of grain producers in the region have improved greatly in income. But pig farming creates a new perspective. As the producer already has scale and professional management, production costs will fall, he said.
If the producers reach the slaughter capacity of the fridge, the production of pork in 2025 will be close to 1 000 tonnes per day.
Nadir Shah, Manager of the business unit and the Frisian cattle, says the production will leave the cooperative able to export to European countries.
The farm follows the standards required by the European market, with gestation, climate control and animal welfare.
The cooperative, which already exports to Hong Kong, should arrive to the Russian market.
The Friesland chose Tocantins as a new area of expansion because the State there is a predominance of medium-sized producers, which adapt well to the cooperative system.
The cooperative, which already has a armazenadora unit for this harvest 2015/16, wants to take your model for the region, says Greidanus.
