Ericsson will invest in television in Brazil, says global President

The tv has attracted covetous glances from the telecommunications industry. The potential of this market in Brazil is considered equivalent to broadband and has received attention of the Swedish giant Ericsson. In quick trip to Brazil this week, the Chief Executive of Ericsson group, Hans Vestberg, said the value exclusively about the company's plans to enter the television area in the country, where already operates in several segments for almost 90 years.
"We want to work in Brazil with the broadcasters, TV operators," Vestberg said. Be with the telcos already is the first step, according to the Executive, attentive to the question posed by the report to the President of Ericsson in Latin America and Caribbean, Sergio Quiroga, about the potential of the local TV market. "I'm writing it down and collect later," Vestberg said smiling.
The set of carriers generated an average local revenue of R $ 150 million last year. Teles ' investment in networks is estimated by Quiroga in 15% ($ 22.5 billion) and TV, 3% ($ 4.5 billion).
According to the SindiTelebrasil, which represents telecommunications firms, the industry invested a total of $ 31 billion in 2014. Already the gross revenue, which includes industry, fixed and mobile telephony, broadband, pay TV and ' trunking ' (radiochamada) reached r $ 234 billion in 2014 and $ 118,6 billion from January to June this year.
Vestberg has worked on local subsidiary and how well do you know Brazil. In just a day and a half this week, took the opportunity to exercise in the morning in the Ibirapuera Park, one of the few green areas in the capital. Did a quick run but fruitful, 10 km in 45 minutes, to keep fit. The visit also served to maintain the personal ties with the country where he was born Juliana, his 15-year-old daughter. The youngest of 13-year-old Carr, was born in the United States. The woman is "super-sueca". Like the company, "is a global family," quipped.
It is in Brazil that the Executive intends to reproduce the model that assured his Group Managing 500 TV channels in Europe and paved his entry into the Middle East. Ericsson provides all equipment and software necessary to take the contents of a TV to the client and manages the service. The BBC of London, is one of his clients. To manage the technology only from the BBC, Vestberg maintains a team of 1.4 million people.
He points out that 66% of the company's revenue comes from software and services, the remainder is equipment, representing 75% ten years ago. Does not reveal what is the slice of the TV business, but says that that the world market dominates Ericsson.
The constant refurbishment of Ericsson to adapt to global market changes led Vestberg talking about digital economy and popular broadband plans, the heads of Government. In five years, the number of countries that have adopted popular broadband plans went from 33 to 144. This is one of the themes that the Executive intends to address with Dilma Rousseff, on a trip that the President has scheduled for Sweden in the days 18 and 19 October. The presidential palace confirmed the trip, which includes Finland on day 20.
Vestberg is Ambassador to the United Nations Foundation, which has among its digital economy flags and the fight against poverty. Initiatives such as the Government announced in August that Dilma-the end of subsidies of PIS and Cofins for smartphones, PCs and tablets-go against the grain of world development, said the Executive, without commenting on the case of Brazil.
The head of Ericsson said that a recent United Nations study indicates that each $ 10 drop in price of the smartphone, 100 million people come to the mobile service. "In Brazil, there are digital plans, but there are great opportunities," he said.
