SÃO PAULO-sales of supermarkets had real growth of 3.14% in July, compared with June, according to the Brazilian Association of Supermarkets (Open). In the assessment of the President of the entity, Sussumu Honda, performance during the period was good, but reflected a slower pace of the economy. Compared to July 2013, actual sales have increased 0.99%.
Year to date until July, sales feature real advancement of 1.48%. In nominal terms (without taking into account inflation), the high accumulated is 7.74%.
For the second half, the expectation of Abras is growth, but at a slower pace. Because of this, the Association lowered its estimate of expansion for the sector in 2014, from 3% to 1.9%.
