Packaging production back up 0.73% in the first half of 2014

Packaging production presented negative performance in the first half of 2014, retreating 0.73% as compared to the same period last year. The fall focused mainly in the second quarter. Still, the industry's expectations are moving R $ 56 billion in 2014, up from the $ 51.8 billion generated by the industry in 2013, according to a study of the Brazilian Association of packing (Open).
Of the five classes of materials used, just introduced Metal positive balance: 5.92% growth in the first half. The other four showed negative rates: paper ( -1.99); Plastic ( -1.39), glass ( -1.17%) and wood ( -22.44). The level of employment in the industry reached 230,909 jobs, an increase of 719, compared to June 2013. The plastics industry is still employing more: 52.72% of the total, according to data measured by the end of the first half.
The best performing activities in the period were the manufacture of apparatus for receiving, recording, playback and audio amplification and video (20.26%) manufacture of communication equipment, such as cell phones (10.01%) cleaning products (5.22%) and pharmacists (5.15). Already among the negative performances appear the manufacturing of electronic components ( -9.16%) smoke ( -6.91%); and the white line ( -6.35).
Exports also presented negative numbers in the materials: glass ( -7.50), plastics ( -9.35%) and paper/cardboard ( -3.83%) and growth in metallic (35.47%) and wood (0.45%) For this year, the most likely scenario for the packaging sector is stability, due to the economic situation of the country as a whole.
