Sales of PCs and mobile devices reach 2.4 billion this year

Worldwide sales of PCs, tablets, mobile phones and other mobile devices reach 2.4 billion units in 2014, an increase of 4.22% compared to last year, according to research firm Gartner.
Two trends are remarkable in the year: the slowdown in the market for tablets, and a slight recovery in the PC market. The estimate is that, after having presented a fall of 9.5 percent last year, the traditional equipment will retreat only 2.9% in 2014.
"The exchange of machines with Windows XP operating system by companies and the cycle of renewal of machinery companies will accentuate the fall of the market, especially in Western Europe," said Ranjit Atwal, Research Director of Gartner.
It is estimated that 308.5 million PCs are sold in the world in 2014. For the tablets, the projection of the Gartner is a volume of 256 million units, 24 percent more than last year.
According to the company, the lower demand for devices with smaller screens in emerging market and the transition to the so-called phablets — smartphones with giant screens — in Southeast Asia are slowing the penetration of the appliances. "The next wave will be driven by lower prices, not by advanced features," said Atwal.
Between cell phones, Gartner's estimate is that sales will reach $ 1.9 billion units, up 3.1% from 2013. Smartphones will continue to be the most devices sold on the market, representing 66% of the sales of mobile phones. Until 2018, the estimate is that they are 88% of sales.
