IBGE: vehicle sales in March was the worst in 6 years

RIVER-March 2014 marked a sharp drop of 16 percent in sales of vehicles, in comparison with the same month of last year. It is the worst result since March 2008, when the indicator was 20.3% reduction. The data were disclosed on Thursday, 15, by the Brazilian Institute of geography and statistics (IBGE), in Monthly Trade Survey (PMC).
According to the Institute, the crash indicates that the thread felt strongly the effect of IPI, beginning in January. Also weighed a smaller supply of credit and the calendar effect, with fewer working days due to the Carnival.
"De stocks and partially in February were still sold with IPI rates lower. These stocks do not make up one more relevant portion of sales at dealerships, which are already beginning to see the replacement of the IPI in the matter of the vehicles, "says researcher Aleciana Gusmão.
In 2008, the worst previous result, with drop of 20.3%, the impact of credit on the basis of the global crisis that directly affected sales of the segment.
