SAO PAULO-the heat registered in recent months increased in 30% the search for mineral water in the country between December and early February 2013, compared with the same period last summer.

In Sao Paulo, the high is more significant: 35%, representing the highest growth in the industry in history, according to the Brazilian Association of the industry of Mineral Waters (Abinam).
The high temperatures and the preference for ingestion of water instead of sodas and juices "less natural" are the reasons pointed out by beverage distributors for sales growth.
"This year, we expected grow 20% because of the World Cup, but the heat is increasing the prospect," says Carlos Alberto Lancia, contaminant hydrogeologist and President of Abinam.
In April, the Association will make a new assessment of the industry's sales during the summer. There is the prospect of growth of more than 40% if the pace continue as is.
According to Lancia, this growth does not mean that there is a risk of the product disappear from shelves. "The offer we have is three times greater than current demand." What can happen is a trademark or another is not available.
For Lancia, a possible rationing or fall in the level of the reservoirs of the city may lead more consumers to the market in search of mineral product. "With a lot of chemicals to treat the water that is left in the tanks, she becomes more thick and whitish, with taste and smell bad. There the same increases consumption, "he says.
Gustavo Zamarian, owner of a distributor in paradise, South zone of São Paulo, for the first time has declined requests. He still hasn't managed to organize the queue. "There are people who ends up having to wait a day," he said.
