BMW signs protocol for construction of factory in Santa Catarina

BMW and the Government of Santa Catarina (UFSC) today signed an agreement providing for the installation of the German carmaker Upstate. The company will invest 200 million euros in the construction of a factory that will produce up to 30 thousand cars per year in the municipality of Parati.
The project was announced in October, but the Government of Santa Catarina and the automaker awaited enabling the brand to the new automotive system-what happened at the beginning of February to officially launch the venture. Today, the President of the Brazilian subsidiary of BMW, Arturo Piñeiro, and Governor of Santa Catarina Raimundo Colombo, signed the memorandum of understanding that aims to invest in the State.

BMW's investment in Santa Catarina provides for the creation of more than 1,000 jobs at the factory of automobiles and other 5 thousand vacancies in the supply chain.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister of development, Fernando Pimentel, said that the arrival of BMW in Brazil proves the success of the new automotive system, which places restrictions on imports and provides benefits to automakers investing in the country.
According to the Minister, 37 companies have already enabled to Innovate-Auto, as was christened the new automotive policy, published on 3 October. Of that number, eight companies have already initiated investments in building new factories or enlargement of existing lines, said Patel, adding that these projects will add contributions of $ 5.5 billion in the sector over the next four years.
