Sale of PCs falls 11% in 2° quarter, IDC study points

The sales volume of computers fell more than 10% in the second quarter of 2013, according to data collected by the technology consultancy IDC. According to consulting the result, however, was higher than expected by analysts and, according to them, already outlines a reaction.
The data showed that, between May and June this year, 75.6 million units were sold, 11.4 percent less than the total amount sold in the same period in 2012.
According to the consultancy, "the numbers reflect a market that is struggling due to the transition to touch-based systems that run the Windows 8, to justify the high prices of ultrabooks vis-à-vis economic pressures and in the face of competition with tablets and other devices," said IDC official note.
Among the manufacturers, to the Lenovo saw its sales leader to retreat. In the second quarter, the Chinese sold 12.6 million PCs, 1.4% less than the registered between May and June 2012. In 2012, the Chinese bought the traditional Brazilian computer manufacturer CCE.
For other companies, the decline was more abrupt. HP registered 12.3 million units sold (low of 7.7%). The movement was repeated among the other companies in the industry: Dell sold 9.2 million units, 4.2% lower than a year ago; Acer sold 6.2 million, 32.6% drop; and Asus sold 4.6 million, 21% slide.
Future despite the fall, the IDC's expectation is that the segment presents any reaction in the coming months. According to the analysis, one of the factors that contribute to this more upbeat performance was the result of the second quarter performance, as the IDC anticipated a bigger tumble of 11.7%, to 75.4 million.
In addition, sales in the United States declined by only 1.9%. Some companies even managed to increase its sales in the country. Dell rose 5.8% to commercialization, while Lenovo has expanded in 19.6%.
