Global personal computer sales fall in may, IDC

SAO PAULO-the world's computers showed a drop in May sales in major markets, according to a preliminary survey of the consulting firm IDC. The market had brought an improvement in April in Latin America and the region that includes Europe, the Middle East and Africa, but the may result was slower than the checked in April in these markets. The exceptions were the United Kingdom and India.
According to the survey, the Group Brazil and Mexico showed a drop in sales of 21% in May compared to the same month last year. China and India recorded retraction of 17% in may, while the United Kingdom, Germany, France includes and Turkey had 18% drop.
IDC projected for the second quarter a drop in overall sales of 11.7%. In the first quarter, the market had already registered a reduction of 13.3%. The consultancy also provides falls in the third and fourth quarters, of 4.7% and 1.6%, respectively. For the year 2013, the estimate is a 7.8% drop in the world market of PCs.
According to the consultancy, due to deterioration of the market, it is possible that global sales in the year to be less than projected. The IDC estimates an improvement in the second quarter with the launch of products and the end of school holidays in the northern hemisphere, but recommends caution.
