Doubles the number of homes with cars in Brazil

Sao Paulo-the number of households with cars in Brazil nearly doubled in the last two decades. Jumped from 23% to 40% of total, i.e. for every thousand homes, 400 have one or more vehicles in garages, according to statistics tabulated by the associated press based on the latest Census Data.
In the United States, there is an opposite movement. In the early 90, 5.7% of households had no cars, that percentage rose to 9.3 percent last year and should reach 10% this year, according to the American consultancy CNW Marketing.
Deficiencies in public transport-which recently triggered a wave of protests in various parts of the country-and the Brazilian's desire to have a car tend to keep the heated automobile market in the coming years.
Even with the lack of mobility in the big cities and the high cost to the consumer to keep a vehicle, automakers are betting on sales of 5 million units a year from 2017.
In the period in which the number of households with cars grew 74% in the country, sales of new vehicles almost increased five-fold. Left of 712.7 thousand units, in 1990, to 3.5 million in 2010. This year should reach the record of almost 3.9 million units.
"In Brazil, the car is still a status symbol and the deficiency of public transport is a factor that encourages the purchase", confirms the Prada partner Leticia Costa, Advice.
The Brazil currently has 5.5 inhabitants per vehicle, while in the us this is parity of 1.6 and 1.9 in Europe. "The US is the country with the highest penetration of vehicles per capita in the world, with very little room for growth, while Brazil can still grow," says Leticia.
Rural areas and smaller towns are the most should enlarge the volume of cars in circulation, adds the senior consultant A.T. Kearney, David Wong. In metropolises like São Paulo, parity inhabitants per vehicle already approaching American and European indexes.
