Country closes half with 265.7 million cell phones in use

The Brazilian mobile telephony market ended the first half with 265.7 million active lines, the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel). The volume corresponds to a growth of 3.7% compared to the first half of last year.
In June, 215.3 million new lines were recorded, which represented an increase of 0.07% compared to may.
According to Anatel, the market ended the first half with 211 million prepaid cellphones, 0.9% more than the registered in the same period last year. With this growth below the market average, prepaid cellphones started to respond by 79.4% of the mobile phone market, up from 81.7% in 2012.
As the user base postpaid increased 16.4% in the period, reaching 54.6 million cell phones in use. The user base postpaid represented 20.6% of the market, down from 18.3 percent a year earlier.
The mobile broadband segment reached 77.4 million hits in June, an increase of 58.3% compared to last year. Of this total, 174.1 thousand accesses are terminals with fourth-generation technology (4 g).
