Retail losses grew 7% on 2018

After three consecutive years in decline, the Brazilian retail losses index went back up and reached 1.38% of the Brazilian retail net turnover, totaling R $21.46 billion in losses, waste. These findings are part of the unpublished research presented at the Abrappe Forum for Loss Prevention 2019. The study conducted in partnership with EY analyzed the data of 113 retailers, of 12 different segments: attacked and Atacarejos, footwear, construction/home, drugstores, electro/furniture, sports, bookstores/stationeries, department store, Magazines, fashion, Perfumeries and supermarkets. On average, these networks lost 1.38% of net revenues of R $1.55 trillion of the restricted retail registered in 2018 by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Loss in Billing Based on the scenario depicted in the survey, a projected loss for the entire retail of R $21.46 billion is estimated. The study of Abrappe in the previous period showed a lower mean of 1.29%, that is, there was an increase of 7% from one year to the other. Of the segments analyzed, supermarkets, perfumeries and sports, with averages of 2.05%, 1.92% and 1.8%, respectively, were the only ones who recorded losses rates above the national average. Among the root causes of losses, operational breakdowns lead to 36%. Then, external theft appears with 20% and inventory errors with 13%.
